Hello Alex and all. I had not heard Mark LeClair's name mentioned for some time. After about 2017-18, I began losing touch with much of the sync community, as I finished my own book. And then the covid ritual really knocked me out for quite a bit. Anyway, great to be here and re-examining these ideas. As I read Mark's fascinating essay, someone in the den turned the television on (this was Christmas Day!) and at that moment, "A Christmas Story" was on and it was the scene where Ralphie slides down the slide halfway after visiting Santa Claus and then climbs up - "The Wrong Way" - and tells Santa he really wants a weapon as a gift. A Red Ryder BB gun. But Santa tells him he'll shoot his eye out. He then pushes Ralphie down the slide and he lands in a bed of cotton, dejected. At that very moment, other guests in the store march by, singing, "We're off to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz." At that moment, I sensed Mark LeClair was smiling at the sync.
RIP Mark. Glad to see that someone has kept an archive of Mark's work, it would be unfortunate to lose it all.
I remember stumbling acrss his blog. His insights into eyes wide shut made me go back and watch the film. He will be missed.
Amazing. Thank you so much for being a caring custodian of this important work.
